My friend Mike from back home is visiting Vietnam for the first time, so I stopped by Tan Son Nhat to pick him up. He lost his iPhone 5s before even leaving the airport, and stayed up all night trying to figure things out with AT&T.; Then in the morning we visited Go Cong Tay to visit an ill uncle, The locals were quite friendly to Mike too. Hope you enjoy this Saigon food tour - there’s nothing better to do than eat! Get my food and travel updates: http://migrationology.com/food-news When I was in Saigon, one day I met up with Kyle LeDotNet (http://youtube.com/kyleledotnet), a local vlogger and blogger, for a day of cruising around and eating. We started at one of the most famous restaurants in the city, Bánh Xèo 46A to eat the Vietnamese crepe known as banh xeo. The southern Vietnamese version, as I’m told, is large than other versions around the country, and we ordered their specialities - a huge savory crepe, packed full of pork belly and shrimp and bean sprouts, then folded over and served with a pile of fresh leafy vegetables and Vietnamese sweet fish sauce to dip. It was my first tiem to eat Vietnamese banh xeo, and it was pretty tasty. After the banh xeo, continuing on our Saigon food tour adventures, we then caught a taxi to Bánh Cuốn Hải Nam, a restaurant in the city known for serving Vietnamese banh cuon - like thin rice pancakes filled with a savory filling and rolled, and again, served with the signature sweet Vietnamese fish sauce. I’m a huge lover of banh cuon, and I loved them even before going to Saigon this trip, so I really enjoyed these. The outer wrapping was soft and silly, and the filling was meaty and salty, and you can’t forget about that sweet salty fish sauce, to which I added some chili as well - it was delicious. After two quick meals we headed to a Saigon restaurant called Bình Xuyên 2, sort of an entretainment restaurant in the city - like a full amusement restaurant. People come to this type of restaurant to relax, to spend time with the family, and to feast, and that was the reason we came. The first dish we ordered was a deep fried giant gourami fish (cá tai tượng chiên xù), covered in its own scales and topped with peanuts and shallots. The fish was served along with Vietnamese rice paper, rice vermicelli noodles, and lots of herbs and fresh vegetables, and finally a fermented fish dipping sauce. The combination was incredibly good - it was easily my favorite dish of this Saigon food tour. Next we also ordered a flaming hot pan of pig intestines (dồi trường), seasoned with lime juice and tossed with herbs and vegetables. Again it was delicious and served on a huge flaming hot platter. Our final dish of the meal at Bình Xuyên 2 restaurant was cơm cháy, kind of a burnt rice. It was good and smokey and crispy all at the same time. After our delicious early dinner, we continued on to walk around an area of Saigon known as Phu My Hung, and then proceeded on to Notre Dame cathedral in the heart of the city to experience the snacking culture around there. I had eaten it already a couple of times, but while at Notre Dame, I had a snack called banh trang trung, a piece of Vietnamese rice paper, topped with meat and a quail egg, then roasted over fire. Our final stop was at Kem Nhãn Chú Tám, a legendary Saigon ice cream street where the two shops, right next to each other, fight for business - it was an intense and quite an enjoyable ice cream food adventures. So you all know that there are Vietnamese people living all over the world. These people are known as Viet kieu who live outside of Vietnam. American, Canadian, and Australian Viet kieus are pretty common, but did you know that there are Vietnamese people living in the Czech Republic? Well, meet Van, a programmer and photographer from Prague, who was traveling in Saigon and is probably more of a foody than me. Here's a list of the Vietnamese food that we ate and the tourist locations that we visisted: Bun bo Hue at 300 Vo Van Tan, The Reunification Palace, Jade Emperor Pagoda, Soft Shell Crab at Quan 94 at 94 Dinh Tien Hoang (There are two restaurants next to each other. They're pretty similar to me) Lunch of Canh Chua - sour soup, ca kho - caramelized slow cooked fish, steamed pumpkin blossoms, and beef with sweet vinegar wraps at Quan Cuc Gach at 10 Dang Tat, The Bitexco Tower Alta Coffee. Eating in Saigon is a wonderful experience, but with Vietnamese food on a daily basis, restaurants like Skewers help me and many other expats and visitors get a taste of home. Western food is plentiful in Saigon, but none are like this place. I've actually eaten many times here before meeting the chef and owner from Southern California, Tristan Ngo. In this video, we sit down with him and chat a bit about his experiences in Vietnam and in business. Then we ate some food including clam chowder and meat loaf. A bunch of friends and I traveled down to My Tho to visit our roots in the Mekong. First we ate some noodles called hu tieu. Then we tried VEGEMITE and then hated our lives. Then we went to the most famous temple in My Tho. After a bunch tour of the river, we went to a honey tasting area with lots of bees and eventually played with a python. Then we got on this boat for a water coconut canal cruise. We heard some traditional Vietnamese music called cai luong too. Then we went to Phung Island where we learned about the coconut religion called dao dua. Before that we had lunch consisting of fried gourami and grilled chicken. Finally for dinner we ate live octopus at a famous local restaurant. Great Day! One of the things that many Indonesian visitors and locals do in Bandung is to shop. There's no where else that has some exciting novelty shops with brilliant superhero and comic characters than Jeans Street- also known as Cihempelas Walk. You can easily tell any taxi driver to take you there. I didn't go shopping though, but I wasn't very hungry, so I decided to sample just a little street food. I smelled the durian ice cream from a far and had to try it hoping that it was less of a durian taste than normal. I was wrong. This ice cream was so pungent and tasted quite fresh. In fact, there was a wedge of freshly harvested durian pod in the ice cream. The ice cream wasn't all that- that fresh durian was. That pretty much ruined my taste buds because durian tastes like fermented pork to me. I walked along further and randomly some man asked me to come to his house. I declined, but we became friends after I spotted another man bashing some fruits into his bowl. I definitely had to try it without knowing what it was. It turned out to taste great on topic, but eventually as I ate further, it was absolutely disgusting . It was a mixture of fruit and fish and that was awful. The flavors were far too strong for me. Special thanks for the man's random kindness. We walked for quite sometime together and he told me about his brother and his mother and his knowledge of America. Truly awesome time interacting with a complete stranger. I did want to go to his house, but at the same time my mother told not to go to stranger's homes. Maybe that's the American wall I have, but I was too much on a time crunch in Bandung, because directly after the Jeans St, I had other plans. I do regret not going though. Oh well, either way, this man was just another example of some amazing and kind people I met in Indonesia. Hong Kong was a dream come true. In my youth, I grew up watching Vietnamese dubbed Hong Kong movie series that my parents rented with hundreds of VHS tapes. Later on, I moved onto watching Hong Kong movies and just grew in love with urban Asian culture. I finally got a chance to visit Hong Kong and it was one of the best trips I've ever had. I visited Victoria Harbor to the the Symphony of Lights. I went to the Nan Lian Gardens, the Lin Po Monastery with the giant buddha, and the Victoria Peak over looking the city below. My trip is no where near complete because of time issues, but I can't wait to see Hong Kong again. Happy Lunar New Year! Here in Saigon It's the year of the goat, so comic book artist / photographer Tom Nguyen and I eat a goat and more! We first started off with the quite bizarre steamed goat brain its in own juices. Tom didn't like it, but as a zombie, I love all kinds of brains. Then we munched on some grilled goat breasts with okra. We ignored the okra. The goat breasts were very firm and full of milky flavor. Next, we ate goat curry. This is usually a favorite of mine, but tonight, the curry was a bit spicy and the meat was a bit tough. We also ate some veal that I forgot to film. The main event of the night was the goat hot pot. This was almost identical to a pho noodle based goat broth. The meat was surprisingly tender. Goat isn't the easiest animal to eat because it tends to be taste quite gamey. And not Marn gamey if you catch my drift. I also witnessed Tom Nguyen drawing Batman and Spiderman too. Oh, and I presented my comic book character proposals to Tom. Call out to Jersey can you hear me?
I’ve been dreaming on the east coast
From the passenger from the passenger seat
We’ve got this cooler stacked well find some friends
You won’t catch us looking back
Grab your friends come on just dance
On green we go, we might never make it home (hey)
Remember this face, were gonna take it all the way
I hope you know, we might never make it home (hey)
Remember this face, were gonna take it all the way
So what if I find comfort in every single crowd
Where these kids don’t know my name
and they don’t care what I’m about
The streets are calling out and now we’ve got just one more chance
To make this count to make this last
Cause this could all be gone so fast
On green we go we might never make it home (hey)
Remember this face were gonna take it all the way
I hope you know we might never make it home (hey)
Remember this face were gonna take it all the way
We came we saw we called you out
We saw the faces in the crowd
It’s up to you now, so let’s put it down
We came we saw we called you out
We saw the faces in the crowd
It’s up to you now so let’s put it down
On green we go we might never make it home (hey)
Remember this face were gonna take it all the way
I hope you know we might never make it home (hey)
Remember this face were gonna take it all the way
Just take, take, it all the way
Can you can you twist me up yet again? A Chemical kiss from you princess pretend that, this isn't what you wanted girl we all know this is what you wanted girl. To fall into friction hold on to addiction and never let go of your perfect affliction the break downs apparent like a note wrote you'll tear it apart with a smile you can bet I'll be counting the miles.
Bite your tongue and forget to breathe, Go ahead yeah make me believe that, this isn't what you wanted girl we all know this is what you wanted girl.
Dada da da (3x)
This is where we fall out this is where it breaks down, again and again, you are where it begins and this is where it ends. Yeah
I can't explain this, shake this, fake this, face down may be the only way out, Alive this time, I tried to survive the look in your eyes to no suprise they're far from dry, tears of regret with this pen I'll forget, your name, your name.
This is where we fall out this is where it breaks down, again and again, you are where it begins and this is where it ends.
This is where we fall out
This is where it breaks down
This is where
We fall out
Step back Whoa and say goodbye too, innocence and elegance no back is safe no breath is sacred. Take this chance to make this last (step up, step up) were hanging on to fallacies of morality (get up, get up) Save yourself Save me
Eyes wide with the secrets we tell you say you don't smile but you wear it so well, convince me that you are someone else
We insist that you fake this, don't stay so complacent, just step out line and the fear will replace it the emptiness inside convictions that you hide so innocent so elegant
Eyes wide with the secrets we tell you say you don't smile but you wear it so well, convince me that you are someone else , Save it for a sucker (sucker) this is the call out yeah this is the call out convince me that you are someone else
Hey, your words they are weapons so sharp with our deceptions oh so oh so. Oh so dramatic my voice like static cutting out constantly well maybe its you maybe its me.
Maybe it's me, maybe it's me. Your words they are weapons so sharp with our deception oh so oh so.
A day rushes by, in a matter of minutes wasted on only the most simple things. We can't seem to get it right, no we can't seem to get it right. Yeah
Talk, talk slower kid, take a breath and see what you've been missing. I've heard it's worth the wait and the best has yet to crumble, I've heard it worth the wait and the best has yet to crumble.
You promised that this was just the start if I promise I won't let go but I'm, Slip slipping and you, you're missing my every intention locked in lips that whisper, that whisper
Talk ,talk slower kid, take a breath and see what you've been missing. I've heard It's worth the wait and they best has yet to crumble, I've heard its worth the wait and the best has yet to crumble.
We were safe in summer.
Well i've been, cautiously approaching every intersection in fear of complication. to the beating of my pulse is racing the dreams you're chasing, a white knuckled grip can't keep the basement door from closing now.
Woah oh it suddenly seems like all my luck has run out
Woah oh so much for secrets cause they've all been found out
It's ok this is the last day this right here this is the last page
To the story of my life.
So leave the candle lit, let it burn out on it's own, much like i did on that long drive home a mild winter night the date, Go, Twelve eleven oh five, a scene of fear colliding with reality the next thing I know Im riding shot gun with a tree. Intentional or not I guess that's not the point, the point is Im still alive.
Woah oh it suddenly seems like all my luck has run out
Woah oh so much for secrets cause they've all been found out
Its ok this is my last day This right here this is the last page
To the story of my life
He will breathe again, this time no wasted breath cause, now hes got it right and he won't second guess it.
He will breath once again and,
This time no wasted breath cause,
This times hes got it right now
Meet me at the top of my lungs where silence is
an epidemic, a subtle cure to this nonsense
let my words convict your conscience
you're consciously trying your best to get lost
while avoiding my eyes at every cost
so look up and talk down to me
it's nothing short of what we used to be...
I want to scream but I know the consequence
so I'll watch in silence my best defense
as you trip on these words I wrote
when you sing them back I hope you choke
I'm writing to you every word you wish you could've said to me
but this pen and this paper so much more forgiving
than your eyes could ever be
closed tight..hide emotions inside, the lies that you lied
and the tears that you cried
drowned in the absence of your inhibition
Lips to him or a bottle hello indecision..
I want to scream but I know the consequence
so I'll watch in silence my best defense
as you trip on these words I wrote
when u sing them back I hope you choke
so wait while I count back the time
4 3 2 one last breath good night
And I’ve got a secret I didn’t want to do this
You don’t understand how long I’ve fought the battle
I’m tired of these phone calls every night
“Please I just need a ride”
It’s so ridiculous and difficult I always seem to try
All the witty quotes from all our favorite songs
Turned out to be just dead end roads
So turn up the radio and go, just drive home
Start Fresh I’m beginning to get over this
Yesterday feels like miles away
Start fresh you’re better off alone
It’s not my problem call your friends girl
I’ll be at home
And I’ve got a feeling in my bones it’s not the weather
Sometimes the hardest part is finding something better than this
It’s what you get, the feeling of having nothing left
Go fill another glass and drink yourself to happiness
All the witty quotes from all our favorite songs
Turned out to be just dead end roads
So turn up the radio and go, just drive home
Start Fresh I’m beginning to get over this
Yesterday feels like miles away (miles away)
Start fresh you’re better off alone
It’s not my problem call your friends girl
I’ll be at home (I’ll be at home)
Cause I’ve been up all night
You don’t know wrong from right
I’ve been up all night
You don’t know wrong from … Right
Start fresh I’m beginning to get over this
She’s got a chip on her shoulder
And the way she shakes the hips
It’s like the whole world owes her
A second of your time
A second look she’s passing by she’s got you hooked
Popped collar and a classy smile
She’s got the hottest curves
She’s the coldest shoulders
She’s got the moves all the right moves
Keeps you coming back, coming back
She’s got game, game, game in all the wrong ways
She thinks the beat is hers no matter what the chorus says
It’s all the same, same, same no matter what they say
This girl is making me making me sick
She dropped the scene for polo’s and ripped knees
She’s in the club chasing down her dreams
So drink up drink up to everything you swore you’d never be
She’s got the moves all the right moves
Keeps you coming back coming back
She’s got game, game, game in all the wrong ways
She thinks the beat is hers no matter what the chorus says
It’s all the same, same, same no matter what they say
This girl is making me making me sick
She’s got a chip on her shoulder

I heard you were talking to all your friends
About how you got me right where you want me yet again
Well I’ve got news for you
I’m not into what you do
And I’ve been spinning around my head to find a way out
I’ll be me and you’ll be you
I’ve had enough to see the truth
I’ll be me and you’ll be you
I’ve had enough to see the truth
I can hear your voice now singing whoa
Let me feel your heartbeat sing it back
You got me twisted, so tied and conflicted
Yea you had your chance to hold me
but darling you just missed it
I’ll be me and you’ll be you
I’ve had enough to see the truth
I’ll be me and you’ll be you
I’ve had enough to see the truth
I can hear your voice now singing whoa
Let me feel your heartbeat sing it back
Tell me what you’re dreaming of
Is it really perfect with him by your side?
I hope this melody sparks a memory
Will you remember the sound of my voice?
I can hear your voice now singing whoa
There's a one way ticket out of here, with my name written on it, my name written on it and you'll be lucky to catch a glimpse of me leaving, I can't figure you out these signs are so deceiving, I'm hearing these words but I don't know the meaning
Head starts just won't help falling behind, before we were starting
There's no time for brake lights or broken hearts, Were running just as fast as we can were running just as fast as we can, There's no time for Brake lights or broken hearts, I'm falling into hysterics over again
I find myself spilling my thoughts to anyone willing to listen, about times that I'm missing, and I'm searching for answers something to tempt me, I'm looking so hard but I'm coming up empty
I am wasting time in this cold month in December and I am sorry, sorry for falling just short of forever, holding on to what were used too, missing out on what we could do, its time to say, its time to say goodbye to you
Sorry for everything I put you through
Sorry for everything I made you do
Sorry but I just can't be with you
Sorry for everything I put you through
Did you notice what I did for you?
Did you notice when I came for you?
Did you notice what I did for you?
